Eugenia
Garrity a native of Tallahassee, Florida is an active
recitalist. adjudicator. and teacher of voice. She combines
a performing career with a teaching studio and brings to
the profession an extensive background as an oratorio
performer, recitalist, high school and university level
vocal instructor, lecturer, radio host, and Summer Music
Camp Director.
Dr. Garrity currently teaches voice privately from her
studios in Lakeland and Tampa, Florida. Dr. Garrity
completed her Master’s and Doctoral studies in Vocal
Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music
where she studied with Jan DeGaetani and Thomas Paul. At
Eastman, Dr. Garrity was awarded a Graduate Teaching
Fellowship and named Outstanding Graduate Teaching
Assistant.
Dr. Garrity has produced successful students at the college
and high school levels and has consistently produced
winning students at the National Association of Teachers of
Singing (NATS) competitions. At present, she is Vice
President of the NATS Central Florida Chapter. She is
frequently called on to adjudicate for organizations such
as NATS, the State of Florida “Arts for a Complete
Education” Competition, and the “Negro Spiritual”
Scholarship Foundation.
Dr. Garrity emphasizes how to produce a sound that is fully
supported, free of tension, musically expressive and
clearly articulated.
Dr. Garrity teaches students of all ages and encourages
them to actively participate in community singing
opportunities. Presently, she serves as the Publicity Chair
for the Bach Festival of Central Florida.
